Vativ Signs SMC Networks As First Customer

San Diego-based Vativ Technologies is announcing today that it has received its first customer win, with Irvine-based SMC Networks. Vativ, a developer of 10 Gigabit Copper Ethernet transceivers, will provide its technology to SMC for use with SMC's high performance switch products. Vativ's technology allows for the transmission of high speed 10G Ethernet over CAT-5e cable, which is widely installed and very cheap to install. 10G Ethernet over copper technology lowers the cost of cabling dramatically over optical. SMC will use the Vativ transceivers in its 24- and 48-port SMC TigerStack 1000 switches in June.
