Viasat Wins Navy Contract

Carlsbad-based satellite communications company Viasat reported a new contract with the U.S. Navy this morning, where it will receive a sole source contract to provide its small tactical terminals to support foreign military sales. Viasat did not say how much the contract is expected to be worth to the company. The company said the Indefinite Delivery Indefinite Quantity (ID/IQ) will go to supply its multi-channel radios to international military partners; those terminals are used to send encrypted messages for the U.S. military. Viasat provides both satellite equipment as well as runs its own satellite constellation; its satellites are being used by commercial airlines to provide high speed Internet via satellite.
