As part of an effort to boost visibility for an expansion of its flight schedule, Virgin America and partner Klout unveiled a plan today to give away tickets to Twitter influencers, based on how influential they are on the Internet. According to the two, they will give users a free round-trip flight between LAX and SFO to Toronto, between June 23rd and August 23rd, and wireless access on that flight, as part of a promo for its new Toronto and SFO and LAX routes. Virgin America had announced in March that it would begin daily flights from both LAX and SFO to Toronto Pearson international Airport (YYZ), beginning as early as this month. The free flight giveaway is tied to a launch event in Toronto, and will be given away to users based on their "Klout" score. The firms said that users will not be required to Tweet about the event--likening the free flight to "receiving a sample while shopping at the grocery store."
