Los Angeles-based Wemo Media, the company led by Neville Spiteri which is developing the interactive ocean environment TheBlu, said today that it has raised $2M in a seed funding round for the firm. The firm did not announce the investors in the round, however, Wemo's efforts have been funded by Scott Yara, one of the co-founders of Greenplum, which was acquired by EMC a few years ago. TheBlu is an immersive, online interactive environment focused on the world's oceans, and includes a highly visible set of executives--including Andy Jones (Avatar), Joichi Ito (MIT Media Lab), and Yair Landau (MK Capital, formerly of Sony Pictures Entertainment)--for its efforts.
