American Airlines Switches To ViaSat
American Airlines has selected Carlsbad-based satellite Internet provider ViaSat for a major deployment on its fleet of Boeing 737 MAX aircraft, in what is a major win for Viasat, the two said late Friday. Financial details of the win were not disclosed, however, the two said that American's new fleet of Boeing 737 MAX will go into service with ViaSat's in-flight internet systems, starting in September of 2017. American Airlines had been looking to switch to ViaSat, from an existing deal and contract it has with Gogo, saying that ViaSat's higher speed Internet service "materially improves" its service.
