Black Friday Sales Up 9 Percent To $648M, Says Report

The latest numbers from Internet measurement firm comScore find that e-commerce sales this year are surging, totaling $648M in online sales on November 26th. so far the heaviest online spending day to date in 2010. comScore, which tracks Internet traffic and e-commerce trends, said that sales on Black Friday were up 9 percent compared with last year. This year, there was also a big growth in sales on Thanksgiving, with $407M in purchases versus $318M last year, a 28 percent increase. For the holiday season so far--defined as November 1st through the 26th--total e-commerce sales hit $11.6 billion, up 13 percent from last year's total for the same period. Today is Cyber Monday, which has traditionally been the biggest e-commerce day of the year, as people head back to work and use their high speed Internet connections there for holiday shopping.
