Blizzard Entertainment Settles Patent Infringement Lawsuit

Irvine-based online games maker Blizzard Entertainment has settled a patent infringement lawsuit which had been filed against the company by a firm called Via Vadis LLC. According to a filing by the firms, they have reached an agreement and will file dismissal paperwork in the suit, which was scheduled to go to trial yesterday in the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Texas. Via Vadis had sued Blizzard for infringing on U.S. Patent No. RE40,521, which covers "system and method for optimizing access to data in a distributed network." Financial details of that settlement were not disclosed.
