Boingo Wireless Puts Support Behind Hotspot Standards Effort
Los Angeles-based Boingo Wireless, which operates a global network of Wi-Fi hotspots, said it is supporting an industry effort to develop next generation hotspots. Boingo said it is supporting the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) in its advanced Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) trials, scheduled for Q4. The effort is looking to standardize a chunk of what Boingo does, which is allowing users to gain access to a network of Wi-Fi hotspots from different operators, without usersnames and passwords, and making it easer for hotspot operators to link together to extend their networks for their users.
