Broadcom Announces New Microwave Backhaul Chips
Irvine-based Broadcom has rolled out a new set of systems-on-a-chip, aimed at delivering microwave backhaul for the wired and wireless communications market. Broadcom said the new SoCs offer up 5 gigabit per second speeds, and re 4x times more spectrally efficient. The company did not announced pricing on the new SoCs, which are aimed at use in transporting wireless data traffic from cell phones. Broadcom said its new BCM85650 is currently sampling. Microwave backhaul networks are used to transport voice and data from cell phone towers to the core telecom network.
