Creative Artists Agency Launches Its Own Startup Studio With $12.5M In Funding
Los Angeles-based entertainment and sports agency Creative Artists Agency (CAA) has launched itself into the startup business, saying that it has created a new startup studio it calls Creative Labs, according to the company. The CAA said the new startup studio--which will be based in Vancouver, Canada--will focus on developing consumer-facing technology companies and "next-generation media and entertainment experiences". The new effort is funded by $12.5M in a funding round, which came from Boatrocker Ventures, Entertainment One (eOne), Real Ventures, Seedcamp Ventures, and The Telegraph Media Group, plus Saul Klein, Jeff Mallett, and Lane Merrifield. CAA said the new studio will be led by Mike Edwards (CEO), and will be Chaired by Leonard Brody. According to CAA, it will specifically focus on creating new businesses in the areas of OTT, VR/AR, gaming, and AI/messaging, in addition to digital consumer brands in e-commerce, mobile, social, and publishing.
