CrowdStrike, Headed By George Kurtz, Debuts Security Software

Irvine-based CrowdStrike, the developer of security software which was founded by former McAfee CTO George Kurtz, has debuted its technology, saying that it has created a platform which is aimed at stopping security attacks and protecting users' intellectual property. The company said its big-data based, Active Defense platform moves beyond existing, passive defense security and incorporates what it says are attributions and identifications of adversaries who might be launching those attacks. The firm said it uses the sharing of information across a community of trusted defenders, and a "massive" repository of information on attackers and their methods to identify malware and attackers. The firm said the software ties into a web-based subscription to provide malware identification, inteligence briefings, information on known malware and attackers, and more.

Kurtz was the founder and CEO of Orange County's Foundstone, which was acquired by McAfee in 2004. Kurtz later became worldwide CTO and GM at McAfee. CrowdStrike's other founders include Dmitri Alperovitch (McAfee/Intel) and Gregg Marston (Networks in Motion). The firm is venture backed by Warburg Pincus, and raised $26M in funding last year.
