DexCom Buys Healthcare IT Firm
San Diego-based DexCom, a developer of continuous glucose monitoring systems for patients with diabetes, said Thursday afternoon that it has acquired SweetSpot Diabetes Care, a healthcare information technology firm. DexCom said it will pay up to $4.5M, plus earn out of an additional $4M for SweetSpot. SweetSpot develops a cloud-based service which helps process and handle data from patient devices, providing more useful information for healthcare providers, patients, and researchers. SweetSpot's service is 510(k) cleared and aimed at the diabetes market. SweetSpot was based in Portland, Oregon, where it will remain as a subsidiary of DexCom.
