Disney Takes Stake In MLB Spinout BAMTech
Burbank-based The Walt Disney Company says it is acquiring a 33 percent stake in BAMTech, the new technology services and video streaming spinout of Major League Baseball (MLB). According to Disney, it will pay $1 billion in two installments, now and in January 2017, for its stake in BAMTech, which is being carved out of MLB Advanced Media (MLBAM). According to Disney, it has the option to acquire majority ownership of BAMTech in the coming years. BAMTech provides direct-to-consumer streaming services and related analytics and e-commerce management; Disney said BAMTech will be providing delivery and support of streaming video for Disney|ABC Television Group and ESPN, as well as for future efforts at the company.
