Embodied Gets $22M For Lifelike Robots

Pasadena-based Embodied, a startup which says it is developing "life-like robots to revolutionize care and wellness for humans", announced Monday morning that it has raised $22M in a Series A funding round. The funding was led by Calibrate Ventures, and also included JAZZ Venture Partners, along with existing investors Osage University Partners, Intel Capital, Grishin Robotics and others. Jason Schoettler from Calibrate Ventures and Andrew Firlik from JAZZ Venture Partners both join the company's board with the funding. Embodied's robot technology is based on research from Maja Mataric, the chaired professor of Computer Science, Neuroscience, and Pediatrics at USC. The company was co-founded with robotics veteran Paolo Pirjanian, who previously was CEO of Pasadena's Evolution Robotics, and also served as CTO of iRobot after Evolution Robotics' acquisition by iRobot.
