Eucalpytus Tackles Enterprise Market
Santa Barbara-based Eucalyptus Systems, a developer of software for managing cloud computing infrastructure, said Wednesday that it has rolled out its first commercial offering, focused on enterprise customers. Eucalyptus said its new Eucalyptus Enterprise Edition (EEE) software allows its customers to create their own, cloud computing infrastructure using VMware's vSphere, ESX, and ESXi virtualization software, as well as Xen and KVM. Eucalyptus is a spinout of the University of California, Santa Barbara, and is venture backed by Benchmark Capital and BV Capital. The new Eucalptus software allows enterprise customers to create and manage their own cloud using those hypervisors; the Eucalyptus cloud also supports the Amazon Web Services API, so those companies can run their own, private cloud in-house with existing software built for Amazon EC2.
