Fisker Announces New Electric Car, The Fisker EMotion
Los Angeles-based Fisker Inc., the new electric car startup led by car designer Henrik Fisker, has announced its first vehicle, the Fisker EMotion, saying that it will tap technology from a UCLA spinout to help power the vehicle. Fisker said the new vehicle will be powered by graphene battery packs developed by Nanotech Energy Inc., a UCLA spinout specifically working on graphene research. Nanotech Energy says it is developing Laser Scribed Graphene (LSG) supercapacitors and micro-supercapacitors, which allow for the recharging of devices in "seconds" rather than hours. The new Fisker vehicle will have a top speed of 161 MPH, and have a 400 mile range, according to Fisker. Henrik Fisker's new company--not to be confused with his old company, Fisker Automotive, which was sold in bankruptcy to a Chinese car maker--is part of a revival of LA's electric car dreams. Another, electric car vehicle maker across town--mysterious Faraday Future--has yet to roll out a design for its own production vehicle, but has said it will build a $1 billion fatory in Las Vegas to produce those cars.
