Gemstar-TV Guide, Scientific-Atlanta Settle Patent Lawsuits
Los Angeles-based Gemstar-TV Guide and set top box maker Scientific-Atlantic have settled a long running patent lawsuit between the firms. According to the companies, they have signed a technology cross-licensing agreement which resolves all outstanding litigation. The agreements between the companies are long term, worldwide cross licenses to each other's interactive program guide patents. The companies said that Scientific-Atlanta will assist Gemstar-TV Guide to make the Gemstar TV Guide interactive program guides available on Scientific-Atlanta's Explorer set-top platform. The companies estimated that license payments from Scientific-Atlanta to Gemstar-TV Guide would be worth $154M, and payments from Gemstar-TV Guide to Scientific-Atlanta $89M.
