Geni Acquisition News Takes Down Service For Hours
Oops. That big acquisition of Los Angeles family tree site Geni had an unwanted side effect: it took down the site for nearly five hours, Geni reports. Geni said it suffered unexpected downtime, starting at 7 a.m. Thursday morning, running until 10:40 a.m., on the surge of traffic received by the company after it was announced that it is being acquired by genealogy service MyHeritage. Geni explained that the downtime did not result in any lost data, and attributed the unwanted downtime as a result of a "great increase in traffic" from people eager to check out the service after the announcement.
