Ice Energy Opens R&D Center In Riverside

Santa Barbara-based energy storage technology developer Ice Energy announced today that it is opening up a new, research and development center in Riverside, with plans to immediately hire 12 at the location. Ice Energy said the move comes due to grants and incentives from Riverside, as well as the University of California, Riverside. Ice Energy said its new, 22,000 square foot facility in Riverside will support a deployment of 5 megawatts of its systems for the Riverside Public Utilities (RPU), as well as the big 25.6 megawatt deployment the company has contracted with Southern California Edison (SCE). Ice Energy develops the "Ice Bear", a device which creates ice at night and melts that ice during the day to offset air conditioning. That device helps utilities better manage demand on the grid, without affecting customers' ability to cool their buildings.
