Illumina Links With Investor Deerfield Management

San Diego-based life sciences equipment maker Illumina and healthcare investor Deerfield Management said Thursday that the two companies are in a five-year partnership on "discovery and development of novel therapies for diseases with unmet medical needs". According to the two, they will identify therapeutics targets using Illlumina's discovery platform, with Deerfield providing "deep expertise in translational science" to "deliver genetically validated drug candidates through the discovery research phase." Deerfield typically invests in life sciences startups.
