LA Metro Aims To Solve Last Mile To Public Transit Via Ridesharing

The Los Angeles Metropolitcan Transportation Authority (LA Metro) announced a new program Monday, which is aimed to solve the "last mile" problem of connecting people to public transit. According to the LA Metro, it has inked a deal with ridesharing service ia, which will give riders a way to get to three Metro stations--Artesia, El Monte, and North Hollywood--through Via's app. The new ride service will cost $1.75 for LA Metro users, paid through the agency's TAP cards--but will be free to those already riding the LA Metro for free as a result of their income level. The LA Metro and Via said that--to accommodate riders without a smartphone--riders will also be able to contact Via's call center to request a ride, too, and that it will be able to handle non-English speakers. The LA Metro rolled out the program on Monday morning at a presentation at the El Monte Station.
