LegalZoom Shifts To Glendale
Los Angeles-based LegalZoom is shifting its operations from Hollywood to Glendale, the firm said this week, and has signed a 10-year lease for a new headquarters space in the Glendale City Center. The move appears to be fallout from moves last year by the City of Los Angeles to tax the firm in a higher tax bracket. LegalZoom is a provider of online legal documents and templates, making them available to consumers via the Internet. The firm is one of the companies which was hit by a higher taxation by the City of Los Angeles last year, where LA has sought to tax firms outside of the lower Internet and multimedia company rate. Firms such as Shopzilla and MyLife.com had also been affected by the move by Los Angeles, although those two firms had been reclassified into the lower tax bracket. LegalZoom has reportedly been looking for a new headquarters outside of Hollywood since at least April of this year. The firm is one of the Southern California companies rumored to be prepping for an IPO; in what might be a related move, the company recently added former Yahoo President Susan Decker to its board of directors.
