Lime Launches On Demand Scooters In LA, Challenging Bird
On-demand, scooter rental service Lime--which is locked in a battle for a number of cities with Santa Monica-based competitor Bird--has launched its own service in Bird's home market, saying on Thursday that it has entered the LA market. According to Lime, its Lime-S electric scooters have come to LA, alongside its existing fleet of electric bicycles, with a cost of $1 to unlock and $0.15/minute to ride. The company--which apparently is ignoring Bird--said that it's the "first time a multimodal, dock free transportation service has launched in the greater Los Angeles area." Lime says its scooters will be powered by Segway.
