Lions Gate Supports Blu-ray
The Blu-ray Disc Association continued its push this week to gain further supporters for its next generation DVD format, as Lions Gate Entertainment said that it would release content on the high definition disc format. The announcement from Lions Gate comes as part of an additional assault on competing HD-DVD, and follows a similar announcement by Universal Music earlier this week. Lions Gate said that it will release new films, TV programming, and other titles from the company's library as Blu-ray hardware launches here in North America. Blu-ray counts Sony, Twentieth Century Fox, and Buena Vista Home Entertainment as supporters. Blu-ray is pushing its format, which supports 25 gigabytes of data for a single layer disc and 50 gigabytes of data for a dual layer disc, as well as backward compatibility with current DVD formats.
