Lionsgate, Hulu Team Up To Acquire Right To Film Joshy
Lionsgate and Hulu said that they have teamed up to acquired the North American rights to a film, Joshy, from writer and director Jeff Baena (Life After Beth), the two said on Tuesday. Financial details on the deal were not disclosed. According to the two, Lionsgate Premiere will release the film on its label, which will be available exclusively for streaming on Hulu following its theatrical run. The deal appears to be the latest in a series of exclusive streaming deals which online providers like Hulu, Amazon, and Netflix have been negotiating with films, in an attempt to attract viewers to their services and differentiate themselves from each other; just last week, Woody Allen was paid $15M by Amazon for his upcoming film for a similar combination of theatrical and streaming rights.
