Luxtera Ties With STMicroelectronics
Carlsbad-based Luxtera, the developer of CMOS-based, optical networking chips, said Thursday that it has inked a deal with STMicroelectronics, where the two will apply Luxtera's IP and knowledge to a dedicated process at STMicroelectronics' 300mm facility in Crolles, France, to enable high volume production of silicon photonic components. Financial details of the deal between the companies was not announced. The two firms said that STMicroelectronics has been granted the rights to use Luxtera's silicon photonics technology in its new ST photonics process, with Luxtera gaining access to a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective supply chain. The deal will help Luxtera meet volume and quality requirements as it scales out its market. Luxtera is venture backed by August Capital, New Enterprise Associates, Sevin Rosen Funds and Lux Capital, and is headed by Greg Young.
