Microsoft, Qualcomm Team On Wireless Media Streaming
San Diego-based Qualcomm (www.qualcomm.com) and operating system giant Microsoft Corp. (www.microsoft.com) announced that Qualcomm will integrate Windows Media audio and video components into Qualcomm's Qtv video decoder solution. Qualcomm's Qtv solution provides multimedia capability combined with wideband CDMA and CDMA2000. The license means that manufacturers who design in Qualcomm chips for wireless devices will be able to play back Windows Media Audio (WMA) and Windows Media Video (WMV). The companies said that the combined solution wil be available in the first quarter of 2005. Qualcomm's existing Qtv solutions allow software video decoding of streaming and download multimedia content and are aimed at 3G wireless applications.
