MIT Study: Age Of Founders In Fastest Growing New Ventures Is 45

In a study which belies the opt-cited preference for "young" entrepreneurs in the startup and venture capital industry, a new study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology find that the mean age of the founders of the 1,000 fastest growing new ventures in the U.S. is actually 45.0. The study found that, rather than youth, the prior experience in the specific industry predicts much greater rates of entrepreneurial success. The study speculated that, despite the focus on "youth" as the key aspect of a successful startup, that younger people may lack experience in running companies, including the effective management of operations, marketing/sales, finance, human resources, and culture, or lack sector -specific knowledge regarding customer needs, regulatory constraints, or strategic opportunities needed to make new ventures a success.
