MP3.com Founder Robertson Launches New Digital Music Venture
Michael Robertson, founder of MP3.com and Lindows (now Linspire) is launching a new digital music venture, MP3tunes. The new company will focus on providing music products and services based on the MP3 format. Robertson said that Mp3tunes will ship hardware, software, and provide an online music store. The new store will provide MP3-based music tracks and go head to head with music download services such as Apple's iTunes and Napster. Robertson said in a statement that MP3tunes will offer all of its digital music tracks without digital rights management, allowing for consumers to make unlimed copies of their songs purchased through the service. Robertson did not disclose any agreements with music publishers in his announcement of the new company.
