NASA Selects SpaceX, Other Local Space Companies For New Program
NASA has selected Hawthorne-based SpaceX, Carlsbad-based Vulcan Wireless, and Canoga Park-based Aerojet Rocketdyne as part of a new program to boost technologies to land humans on the Moon by 2024, the space agency announced on Tuesday. According to NASA, it has selected a total of 13 companies to help "mature industry-developed" space technologies. Financial details of the deal were not annoucned, however, the deals include an effort to test CubeSat satellite transponders with Vulcan Wireless; work on vertical landing technologies for the Moon with SpaceX; and lightweight rocket combustion chambers with Aerojet Rocketdyne.
