Amplify LA Backs Investment Startup Alto
Los Angeles-based startup accelerator Amplify LA is one of the backers of a new startup Alto, which is allowing investors to invest in nontraditional assets--such as startups, real estate, and more. Alto said on Wednesday that it had raised $2.8M in its seed funding round, which it received from such investors as Foundation Capital, Sequoia Capital's Scout Fund, Amplify.LA, First Check Fund, Green D Funds, and Jack Gibson, the co-founder of NerdWallet. IT Consultancy Opens San Diego Office
In another expansion by a company into San Diego, IT consulting provider Entisys360 said it has set up a new office in San Diego, specifically to expand its geographic reach. The Silicon Valley company says it provides consulting in the areas of end-user computing, software-defined infrastructure, DevOps and cloud, security and virtualization solutions. Report: Snap Paid Settlements To Three Female Employees Over Layoffs
Santa Monica-based Snap, the developer of Snapchat, has reportedly paid settlements to three women who were laid off last year, according to a report today. report said the settlements came after Snap apparently eliminated only women from a number of its teams in a layoff which the lawsuits said disproportionately targeted women. Details on those settlements and the lawsuits have not been detailed. Snap previously had been accused of having a "toxic" workplace for women.

Apple Plans To Hire 1200 In San Diego
Apple is planning to hire 1200 employees in San Diego, in a major expansion of the company's presence in the area. According to an announcement by Apple, made on Wednesday morning with San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, it hopes to add those employees over the next 3 years. Apple had announced a plan to expand hiring in both San Diego, as well as Culver City, in November of 2018. Elon Musk's Boring Company Gains Recommendation For Las Vegas Loop
Los Angeles-based Boring Company, the Elon Musk startup which is developing underground transportation systems, gain the endorsement of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA), for a possilble two-mile loop around the Las Vegas Convention Center. Vertebrae Expands In Texas
Los Angeles-based 3D and augmented reality (AR) software developer Vertebrae announced this week that it has opened up a new office in Austin, Texas hiring two new executives in the location to help it with its next stage of growth and expansion. According to Vertebrae it has named Garrett Eastham as Chief Data Officer, and named Rob Weaver as Chief Revenue Officer. HyreCar Launches Mobile Application For Driver Verification
Los Angeles-based car sharing marketplace HyreCar--which connects ridesharing drivers with vehicle fleet owners--has launched a new, mobile application aimed at helping it with driver onboarding and verification. According to HyreCar, the app, which runs on both Apple iOS and Android devices, was developedi n conjunction with identity verification provider Mitek.
