Prolacta Names Chief Medical Officer
City of Industry-based Prolacta Bioscience, the venture-backed company which takes and processes human milk to help premature infants, has named Victoria Niklas, M.D. as its new Chief Medical and Scientific Officer. Niklas was most recently Director of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Newborn Services at Olive View-UCLA Medical Center and a Professor in the Department of Pediatrics at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA. Prolacta collects and processes human milk, and makes that milk and elements of that milk avaliable for use in neonatal intensive care units, and in particular for preventing a very serious, and potentially fatal disease, necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC), which can often be triggered by the use of cow milk-based formulas in newborns.
