PwC MoneyTree Released, First Time Deals At Four Year Highs
The latest PricewaterhouseCoopers MoneyTree Survey was released yesterday, showing that first time deals have hit four year highs. The firm said that there was $21.7B invested in 2,939 deals in 2005. The quarterly MoneyTree report, which was released by PricewaterhouseCoopers, Thomson Venture Economics, and the National Venture Capital Association, and showed the first increase in venture capital investment in three years. The total for the fourth quarter of 2005 was $5.1B. The most active sectors were wireless investments and the life sciences sector. On the flip side, software investments slipped 10% last year, and networking firms hit an eight year low in investments. However, the software industry was the one industry with the most first time activity.
