Qualcomm Acquires Flarion Technologies For $600M
San Diego-based telecom giant Qualcomm announced this morning that it is acquiring New Jersey-based Flarion Technologies, a developer of mobile technology. Flarion develops Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex Access (OFDMA) technology and mobile broadband Internet protocol (IP) services. The deal is worth $600M in stock and cash, and also includes the assumption of options and warrants. Qualcomm also said that there is an earnout provision for an additional $205M in cash and stock on reaching certain milestones. OFDM technology is being used by telecommunications operators to deliver voice, data, and wireless multimedia applications to subscribers.
