Qualcomm Buys Berkana Wireless
San Diego-based Qualcomm said this morning that it has acquired Campbell-based Berkana Wireless, a developer of RF CMOS silicon for cellular and other wireless applications. Qualcomm will pay $56M in cash for Berkana. The firm also said that it would take a $10M charge related to in-process research and development upon closing. Berkana develops CMOS-based RFICs that are used by the wireless industry. Qualcomm said that the acquisition would reinforce the company's leadership in the RF and 3G wireless market. Berkana has raised over $31.8M in venture funding since its founding in 2001, and is backed by Hotung, KTB Ventures, Miramar Venture Partners, Authosis, ICCP, and others. More information »
