RealD In 3D License Deal With Chip Firm
Los Angeles-based RealD, which develops 3D projection technology for the movie business, has inked a licensing deal with systems-on-a-chip firm Sigma Designs, the two firms said Monday. According to the companies, they will jointly deliver support for RealD's stereoscopic format in Sigma's media processor products. Financial details of the licensing deal were not disclosed. According to the firms, the integration allows manufacturers of set-top boxes, televisions and other consumer electronics to support RealD's format for display of high definition 3D content, and is available today through Sigma. The firms said the format supports 3D-enabled displays delivered across cable, satellite, packaged media, and the Internet using the H.264, Windows Media and MPEG2 formats.
