Rivian To Alexa Enable Electric Trucks
Rivian, the developer of electric trucks which has development offices in Irvine and Carson, California, said this morning that it will Alexa-enable its upcoming vehicles. According to Rivian, there will be a direct integratio of Amazon's Alexa into its connected car systems, with no phones or apps required. The Alexa integration deal is not surprising, given the agreement between Amazon and Rivian for Rivian to supply 100,000 all-electric delivery vans to Amazon, and a massive investment by Amazon into Rivian. Rivian says that Alexa will be available on both its upcoming R1T pickup and R1S SUV models, with access to control key vehicle features like the HVAC, windows, closing and opening the trunk, and even access cameras in the bed of the pickup from an Echo Show or Fire TV device.
