Snapchat Now Alerting Users On Third Party Apps
After a massive leak of compromising photos due to a third party app using Snapchat's "unofficial" API, Venice-based Snapchat has been on the defense, trying to dissuade users from using unauthorized, third party apps. Snapchat said last week that it will start notifying Snap users when it detects they may be using third party apps, and ask those users to change the password and stop using those unauthorized apps. The move is the first move to improve the company's security and reliability after the massive image leak. That leak was attributed to poor security practices by a third party, Snapchat application, which was taken advantage of by hackers. Snapchat is not--so far--shutting off access to the application by third party app developers.
