SocialVibe Racks Up Donations
Los Angeles-based SocialVibe, a venture-backed, online social media web site focused on charity fundraising, announced today that the site has raised more than $100,000 in donations to charities. The company, which is venture backed by Redpoint Ventures, allows consumers to endorse brands and causes via social media widgets on Facebook, MySpace, blogs, and other web sites. Users select a charity they'd like to support, a sponsor for that charity, and post their widgets to their personal pages; each view of that widget counts towards donations to those charities. The firm said the charities now using the service include charity:water, Direct Relief International, Donors Choose, Invisible Children, HollyRod4Kids, One Laptop Per Child, Partnership for a Drug-Free America, Surfrider Foundation, and World Wildlife Fund. The site launched into beta in February.
