Sonos To End Support For Older Hardware
Santa Barbara-based whole-home speaker and audio system developer Sonos is ending support for its older hardware, saying this morning that its "legacy products"--including its Zone Players, Connect, Connect: Amp, first-generation Play:5, CR200, and Bridge products will no longer receive software updates or new features. The company said the end of support for those products comes because "we've now come to a point where some of the oldest products have been stretched to their technical limits in terms of memory and processing power." Sonos said it will stop those updates in May. The move follows a controversial move by Sonos to where it has been "bricking" older hardware traded into the company--making that hardware unusable, even if it could be resold or still used. According to Sonos, any users who continue to use its legacy products have to recognize that "your system will no longer receive software updates and new features" -- or they can trade up to a new Sonos product.
