Southern California Leads In Green Jobs, Says Report

A report released today from the Brookings Institution counts the region as among the job leaders in clean economy jobs. According to the latest Sizing the Clean Economy: A National and Regional Green Jobs Assessment report, the Los Angeles-Long Beach-Santa Ana metropolitan area was among the areas with the largest amount of clean economy jobs, with 89,592 jobs--even more than the 51,811 clean economy jobs in the San Francisco-Oakland-Fremont metropolitan area. San Diego, which was counted separately in the report, had 22,862 clean technology jobs. In the report, the Brookings Institution reported that employers such as Alcoa, Amonix, eSolar, Fisker Automotive, and NanoH2O as the kinds of employers boosting clean job numbers in the LA area; San Diego had firms like Sapphire Energy, General Atomics, Borrego Solar Systems, GE Betz, and Synthetic Genomics. California as a whole has 318,156 clean economy related positions, according to the report.
