SpaceX Wins $82.7M GPS Satellite Launch Contract
Hawthorne-based SpaceX has won a big, $82.7M contract from the U.S. Air Force, to launch next generation, GPS III satellites into orbit. According to the contract award, the contract will include launch vehicle production, mission integration, and launch operations for a GPS III mission. The award is the first national security contract for SpaceX, and apparently the first time that someone other than the United Launch Alliance--the joint venture of Lockheed Martin and Boeing--has actually won a USAF contract for a space launch.
