Triller Claims 50M Monthly Active Users, As Indian Users Seek TikTok Alternative

Los Angeles-based social video site Triller--which competes directly with TikTok--says it has reached 50 million monthly active users. According to Triller, it has seen a growing number of downloads and growth, particularly in India, following the ban of TikTok in India. Triller said it saw a "significant overnight spike in usage and downloads" as a result of the exodus of users from the ban on TikTok in India, and it has become the number 3 download in the photo and video category for India. Interestingly enough, Triller says it is available in most countries--except, not China. India banned TikTok and a 58 other apps because it claimed TikTok and the others "Engaged in activities...prejudicial to [sovereignty and integrity of India". The moves came as a result of a military skirmish between Chinese and Indian troops in the Galwan Valley. Triller allows users to post social videos of themselves, with or without music.
