TurboTax Kicks Off Tax Filing Season, Extends Free Filing To States
Intuit's TurboTax division has kicked off the tax filing year, saying Thursday that it has rolled out its free, online filing of tax returns for Americans. TurboTax--which has for a number of years offered up free filing of federal returns--said this year, it will be also be filing state tax returns at no cost for its users. The company--whose TurboTax software division is based in San Diego--said that its free filing product will be zero cost an expected 60 million Americans who file 1040A and 1040EZ tax returns. In prior years, TurboTax previously charged filing fees for state returns. TurboTax is swizzling its mix of software this year in the tax area, and apparently has moved support for many more complex forms to its Premier desktop software.
