Uber Eats' Flying Delivery Coming To San Diego This Summer
San Diego is about to become the first city in the nation to get food delivered, via airborne drone delivery, thanks to a test deployment by Uber Eats, Uber said on Wednesday. Uber announced the effort to test drone deliveries in San Diego at its Uber Elevate summit in Washington, D.C. According to Uber, it will begin delivering food from a local McDonald's, starting this summer, with those drones delivering food to "designated pick up areas" for Uber Eats drivers--who actually deliver the food to the end user. Uber did not detail exactly what parts of San Diego the drone delivery will cover. Uber apparently already has been running limited test deliveries from McDonald's to San Diego State University last month. San Diego is one of a number of cities with a new unmanned aerial vehicle program, the UAS Integration Pilot Program, which lets companies operate drones in certain cities.
