Viasat Rolls Out High Speed Satellite Internet Nationwide
Carlsbad-based satellite Internet provider Viasat said this morning that it has extended its high speed, satellite Internet service nationwide, as it ramps up access to its ViaSat-2 satellite. According to Viasat, it will offer up speeds of up to 100 Mbps through its satellite-based, home Internet service, which is available to consumers nationwide. ViaSat said the new service will offer up unlimited data plans, set to speed tiers of 12 Mbps, 25 Mbps, 30 Mbps, 50 Mbps, and 100 Mbps speeds. ViaSat did not announced pricing on the plans, however, a spot check of pricing in Southern California shows 12Mbps plans costing around $65 a month after expiration of promotional pricing, and 25 Mbps plans at $100/month, and 30 Mbps plans at around $150 a month. The company's unlimited plans apparently do throttle speeds after a 40, 60, or 100 GB of data usage, depending on plan.
