ViaSat Ties With Boeing On Factory Installed, High Speed, In-Flight WiFi
Carlsbad-based satellite technology developer ViaSat said today that it is in a deal with The Boeing Company, where the company's systems can be factory-installed directly on Boeing's production line. ViaSat says it will enter an evaluation process for airlines to specify installation of the ViaSat in-flight Wi-Fi connectivity system on Boeing Commercial airplanes. Financial details of the deal were not disclosed. ViaSat said the new agreement will allow its Ka-band satellite terminals to evaluated as a factory option for Boeing's aircraft, so that those systems come delivered at the same time the airplanes roll of Boeing's line. The deal will allow airlines to avoid the costly downtime required to retrofit the systems into Boeing aircraft in process now, where a plane has to be taken out of service for retrofit.
