Watch SpaceX's Falcon Heavy Side Booster In Test Firing
Hawthorne-based SpaceX showed off a static fire test on a side booster rocket for its Falcon Heavy last week, saying that theFalcon Heavy will be using a booster that launched its Thaicom 8 mission into space. The test firing, at SpaceX's test labs in McGregor, Texas, are part of an effort by SpaceX to launch its first Falcon Heavy rocket sometime this year. The company had conducted another, static fire of another part of the Falcon Heavy earlier this month. SpaceX has said it hopes to launch the Falcon Heavy sometime in the third quarter of this year. The Falcon Heavy consists of three, SpaceX Falcon 9 rockets strapped together.
