WebSense To Move Headquarters To Texas
In a big loss for the local high tech community, computer security software developer Websense--based in San Diego--is moving its headquarters to Austin, Texas, and is taking 445 jobs with it. According to Texas Governor Rick Perry--who has been aggressively courting Southern California companies--Websense has agreed to move its headquarters and employees to Texas, after receiving a $4.5M payment from the state. The move comes eight months after Websense was acquired by private equity company Vista Equity Partners last June. Vista Equity Partners also owns two other, San Diego firms--Omnitracs and Active Network--spurring speculation that those firms are also at risk of relocating to Texas.
