Western Digital, Toshiba In Joint Flash Manufacturing Facility Deal
Western Digital, the disk drive and memory maker which has substantial operations in Irvine, and Toshiba Memory Corporation said last week that the two have formally agreed to a joint investment in a new, flash memory manufacturing facility in Kitakami, Japan. Financial details of the joint investment deal were not announced. The flash memory facility, being build in Kitakami, Iwate Prefecture, Japan, will manufacture 3D flash memory. The two said they expect the facility to be complete in the fall of calendar 2019, with production beginning in 2020.
